"The 1951 black-and-white French film is not in very good condition, looking consistently fuzzy with fairly weak contrasts. Whether or not a better version exists, the condition under which it is presented makes it more difficult to concentrate on the film or appreciate its subtleties. The monaural sound is a bit more stable but, like the picture, still seems older than it actually is.
